Michelle Poonawalla receives the coveted Shiromani Award at the NRI World Summit 2022, United Kingdom

  • Michelle Poonawalla, well-known artist, businesswoman and philanthropist from the renowned Poonawalla family, received the coveted Shiromani Award from the hands of Mr. G. P. Hinduja, co-chairman of Hinduja Group at NRI World Summit 2022, the United Kingdom for her contribution to the field of Art, she was also a speaker at the prestigious House of Lords, UK. Poonawalla unveiled her artwork at JMS Foundation Charity Gala Dinner at The Dorchester in London on 23 June 2022. 
  • The NRI Institute celebrated its 33rd anniversary with a two-day gala celebration of achievements, charity, investment opportunities, innovation, and business networking. The Poonawalla’s were represented by Yohan and Michelle Poonawalla.
  • Michelle Poonawalla was a keynote speaker at the House of Lords and accepted the Shiromani Award for her contribution to the field of Art. Poonawalla unveiled her artwork ‘Reserve’ at the JMS Foundation Charity Gala on 23 June. The film highlighted water scarcity as a global crisis, accentuated pollution, and contamination of water reserves.
  • Poonawalla’s artwork often explores universal themes that resonate with audiences all over the world - be it India or the UK. In the recently concluded gala, Poonawalla unveiled her short film ‘Reserve’, which highlighted water scarcity as an impending global crisis.
  • Listed by the World Page 1 of 3 Economics Forum as one of the largest global risks to date, water scarcity has the potential to have catastrophic impacts on everyone. The film highlighted these issues layering haunting images of dripping taps and leaking pipes. It is poetic and harrowing seeing images of acrylic paints dissolved in water, a poetic reference to the pollution and contamination that affects so much of our water reserves.

UK Parliament honours AIIA Director Tanuja Nesari with Ayurveda Ratna award

  • Tanuja Nesari, Director of All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) was awarded with the Ayurveda Ratna Award by the UK Parliament, recognising her contribution to furthering the growth of Ayurveda in India and abroad.
  • The UK’s All-Party Parliamentary Group on Indian Traditional Sciences (ITSappg) conferred the Ayurveda Ratna award on Dr Nesari for her exceptional service of the highest order for the promotion of Ayurveda by an ITSappg committee represented by dignitaries including Amarjeet S Bhamra, Ambassador for Ayurveda and Yoga in Great Britain, Virendra Sharma, MP, UK Parliament and Chair, ITSappg and Bob Blackman, MP, UK Parliament and Chair, ITSappg.
  • The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Indian Traditional Sciences was formed in 2014 with an aim to spread the knowledge of Ayurveda, Yoga, Jyotish, Vastu, Unani and Sangeetam in the United Kingdom and abroad.
  • ITSappg is working on a book that will serve as an introductory guide to Indian Traditional Sciences for parliamentarians and would also have contribution from the Ministry of Ayush. It is dedicated to encouraging research in the UK and recently concluded a research on Ashwagandha.
  • “I am humbled and honoured to accept this award from the UK’s All-Party Parliamentary Group on Indian Traditional Sciences. For me, it represents not only a privilege, but a responsibility that I have been bestowed with. It reinforces my belief in Ayurveda’s ability to touch the lives of people across the world and promote holistic healing in sync with nature,” Dr Tanuja Nesari said in a statement.
  • “All India institute has associated with London School of Hygiene for doing a research on Ashwagandha. Today, Ayurveda as medicine is gaining momentum and I am thankful to our honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji and Ministry of Ayush for giving thrust to this sector and making it global. It is a moment of pride for me and the entire Ayurveda fraternity,” she added.

GreenCo partners with IIT Hyderabad to set up a sustainable science and technology school

  • Renewable energy company Greenko has joined hands with IIT-Hyderabad to set up an institution where students will be educated towards sustainable goals like climate change mitigation, circular economy, energy transition among others.
  • The company said the Greenko School of Sustainable Science and Technology (GSSST) will open towards the end of this year and, by June 2023, will induct first batch students for MTech and PhD in sustainable science and technology, followed by BTech programme.
  • According to Greenko, the MoU was signed in presence of Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan. "We have to innovate and establish our own models for achieving self-sufficiency as well as for furthering global welfare. In the 21st century, technology is available to ease our job. India is going to play a leading role in the fourth industrial revolution and IIT Hyderabad will play a major role in building the brand India globally. We have to fulfil Prime Minister’s vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat," Mr Pradhan was quoted as saying in the company statement.
  • It will be the first institute in the country to focus entirely on teaching sustainable science and technology.
  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was present at the time of signing of the MoU.
  • Dharmendra Pradhan said that to achieve self-reliance and advance global welfare, we must innovate and build our own models.
  • Technology is accessible in the twenty first century to make work easier.

Ellorda Cup: Boxers Alfia Pathan and Geetika won gold medals

  • Reigning youth world champions Alfiya Pathan and Gitika produced sensational performances to win gold medals at the inaugural edition of the Elorda Boxing Cup in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, today.
  • Kalaivani Srinivasan and Jamuna Boro signed off with silver.
  • With the addition of two gold, two silver and 10 bronze, India concluded its campaign with an overall tally of 14 medals.
  • Alfiya did not have to break a sweat and got a unanimous 5-0 verdict over Lazzat Kungeibayeva, the 2016 world champion, in the women’s 81kg category final.
