Fortune India Announces India's Most Powerful Woman 2021
- Not only in India, but women across the world are shining in different sectors. They are breaking age-old patriarchal doctrines and raiding what was traditionally considered male bastions.
- MacKenzie Scott tops Forbes's 18th annual ranking of the world’s most powerful women in 2021.
- On December 7, Forbes announced its 18th annual ranking of The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women, the definitive audit of the foremost CEOs and iconic entrepreneurs, heads of state, pioneer philanthropists and policymakers who are solving society’s most intractable problems.
- Indian Finance Minister NirmalaSitharaman has made it to the Forbes' 100 Most Powerful Women annual list of powerful women for the third year in a row.
- Sitharaman who was ranked 37th this year was 41st on the list in 2020 and 34th in 2019. NirmalaSitharaman is the first full-time female Finance Minister of India.

Nicaragua recognizes China, breaks diplomatic ties with Taiwan
- “The government of the Republic of Nicaragua today breaks diplomatic relations with Taiwan and ceases to have any contact or official relationship,” the foreign ministry said in a statement issued in Spanish and English.
- “The People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government that represents all of China and Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory,” it added.
- Taiwan responded quickly, expressing “pain and regret” at the decision, and saying that the Central American country’s president, Daniel Ortega, had disregarded the friendship between the peoples of Taiwan and Nicaragua.
- But Taiwan’s government also expressed defiance.
- “As a member of the international community, Taiwan has the right to exchange and develop diplomatic relations with other countries,” its foreign ministry said.
- Taiwan will continue to promote “pragmatic diplomacy” to expand its international space, and strive to achieve Taiwan’s “due international status”.
- China says Taiwan is one of its provinces with no right to the trappings of a state, and has stepped up pressure to win away Taiwan’s remaining allies.
- China’s ambassador at the United Nations, Zhang Jun, congratulated Nicaragua.
- “We highly commend the right decision made by the Government of Nicaragua, which is in line with the prevailing trend of the time and people’s aspiration,” he said in a tweet. “The One-China principle is a consensus widely accepted by the international community and allows no challenge.”

India Skills Report 2022: Maharashtra retains top spot
- India's employability has improved marginally to 46.2 per cent from 45.97 per cent this year, according to India Skills Report (ISR) 2022.
- The gender gap in employability has also bettered with the women employable pool constantly increasing.
- According to the report, 51.44 per cent of women are highly employable, whereas 45.97 per cent of men are highly employable.
- Further, more than 88 per cent graduates are looking for internship opportunities this year, as per ISR 2022 published by Wheebox in partnership with CII, AICTE, AIU, Taggd, SUnstonEduversity and UNDP.
- The report also highlighted that candidates from states of the likes of Kerala, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh (UP) had the highest employability this year as against last year where Karnataka, UP, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra had the highest employability.
- MBA and B-Tech graduates were turned out to be the most employable talent from the several domains, as per the survey.
- Between the cities, Lucknow, Trivandrum, and Pune have the most employable talent whereas the most favoured cities for work by graduates include Chennai, Bangalore and Kochi.
- The hiring in such sectors is likely to rise by 20 per cent for freshers in 2022 as against 2021. The report further stated that technology as a skill set will carry on being in demand across industries.

India to launch deep ocean mission by 2024
- India will send its first-ever manned mission into the deep sea in 2024 after sending crewed missions into space in 2023. Minister of state for science and technology Jitendra Singh said on Saturday three scientists will be sent at a depth of 5,000 metres (5 kilometres) in the sea to find hidden mineral deposits.
- The mission, which has been called Samudrayan, was launched by the Centre in October this year.
- "With the launch of this Unique Ocean Mission, India joins the elite club of nations such as the USA, Russia, Japan, France and China to have such underwater vehicles for carrying out subsea activities," Singh said at the launch event in Chennai on October 30.
- Samudrayan has been undertaken by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT). It will be a part of the Deep Ocean Mission, which will be implemented at a total budget ₹4,077 crore for five years.
- The preliminary design of the manned submersible MATSYA 6000 under the Samudrayanproject, has already been completed.

India won 41 medals in Asian Youth Para Games 2021
- The Indian contingent returned with 41 medals which includes 12 gold, 15 silver, and 14 bronze. This was India's best-ever showing at the continental Para youth games.
- Athletics yielded the most medals for India, as 22 players returned with a podium finish. Out of 22 medals, eight players won gold, six silver, and eight clinched bronze.
- While the Indian badminton contingent finished the campaign with fifteen medals against their name.
