India has 4th largest ultra net worth households

  • India is home to the 4th largest number of ultra net worth households that have more than 100 million $ in private wealth, according to a new report topped by America.

  • Boston Consulting Group’s Global Wealth 2015,winning the growth game report said continue expansion of China & India was driving growth in the Asia-Pacific region.

  • US remains the country with the largest no of Ultra-Net-Worth-Household at 5201,followed by China(1037),UK(1019),India(928) in 2014

Trade Deficit Narrows to 3-Month Low, bad news from Export sector

  • India's trade deficit narrowed to a three-month low in May, helped by lower gold imports, bolstering the outlook for its current account balance.

  • But in a worrying sign, weak global demand as well as persistent domestic bottlenecks led to a sixth straight annual fall in merchandise exports. Exports account for about a fifth of India's $2-trillion economy.

  • The trade deficit shrank to $10.41 billion last month, its lowest since February, from $10.99 billion in April, data released by the Commerce Ministry showed on Tuesday.

  • The data comes days after India's current account deficit, the broadest measure of its trade with the rest of the world, narrowed to a one-year-low of 0.2 per cent of gross domestic product in the January-March quarter.

Good news for farmers,CCEA may raise MSP of paddy, other kharif crops tomorrow

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) is likely to approve tomorrow a proposal to raise the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy by Rs 50 to Rs 1,410 per quintal for this year.

  • The Agriculture Ministry has moved a CCEA note on MSP of various crops for the 2015-16 kharif season taking into account the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), a government advisory body.

  • According to sources, CACP has recommended a modest increase of Rs 50 per quintal to Rs 1,410 in the MSP for paddy farmers for the 2015-16 kharif season.

  • CACP has also recommended a higher MSP for pulses to boost domestic production and reduce country's dependence on imports.

  • MSP is the rate at which government buys the grain from farmers.

Greek fears erode market impact of ECB stimulus

  • Worries over a potential Greek exit brought renewed volatility in the debt of countries on the geographic periphery of the currency bloc on Tuesday, eroding the impact of the European Central Bank’s recent attempts to suppress borrowing costs by buying bonds.

  • Peripheral bond yields, which move inversely to prices, remain around levels seen before investors began to anticipate the ECB’s €1tn bond-buying programme which started in March and is aimed at stimulating the economy.

  • The turmoil in bonds was also overshadowing equities, with a measure of implied volatility, the Euro Stoxx 50 Volatility Index, at its highest level since early January.

LIC Nomura MF CEO Nilesh Sathe appointed member, life at IRDAI

  • The government has appointed Nilesh Sathe, Chief Executive Officer of LIC Nomura Mutual Fund Asset Management Company, as the member-life of insurance regulator IRDAI.

  • The post was lying vacant since the retirement of S Roy Chowdhury in February 2014.

  • Sathe will be joining the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) on July 1 and have a four-year long tenure at the Hyderabad-headquartered insurance sector watchdog.

FSSAI Notifies 82 Labs for Testing Food Samples

  • The FSSAI has notified 82 NABL accredited laboratories for the purposes of carrying out the analysis of food samples taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Rules and Regulations made there under," the regulator said in its order updated on its website.

  • It further added: "The recognition of these laboratories shall be valid from the date of notification in the official gazette till further orders by the FSSAI or the currency of NABL(National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) accreditation of the laboratory whichever is earlier". In the list, the Northern region has the highest number of NABL accredited labs at 28, followed by the Western region with 25 and the Southern region with 24 labs. The Eastern region has 5 labs in the order.
