ADB to increase India lending by 50 % to $12 b by 2018

  • Asian Development Bank proposes to increase lending to India by almost 50 per cent to $12 billion by 2018, ADB President Takehiko Nakao said on Tuesday.

  • “ADB aims at increasing its sovereign and non-sovereign lending from the present $7-9 billion in three years from 2015 to 2017 to $10-12 billion between 2016 and 2018 using ADB’s expanded lending capacity,” he said.

  • ADB’s annual lending capacity, he added, was expected to increase to as much as $20 billion a year from the current level of $13 billion based on the merger of its Asian Development Fund lending operations with its Ordinary Capital Resources balance sheet.

Gold jewellers seek bigger say in GJEPC

  • The India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), a leading industry body representing the interests of the bullion industry and gold jewellers, is keen on better representation in Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), which is a government body promoting the exports of Indian jewellery.

  • IBJA (formerly Bombay Bullion Association) has asked its members and bullion traders and jewellers across the country to become members of GJEPC in order to make their presence felt.

  • According to GJEPC, in 2014-15, India’s gold jewellery exports rose 17.7 per cent to $9.85 billion, a quarter of the gem & jewellery industry exports of $40 billion.

  • World Gold Council figures show a pick-up in demand for gold jewellery in India. It rose 16 per cent in the first quarter of calendar 2015 to Rs.36,741.4 crore.

Mobile tower count in India likely to cross five lakh by 2020: Deloitte report

  • "Towers are expected to grow at 3 per cent CAGR for next five years and the total number of towers is expected to grow to more than 511,000 by financial year 2020, of which 30,000 towers are expected to be only supporting data sites," Deloitte India report said.

  • The report Indian Tower Industry: The Future is Data estimates that there are about four lakh mobile towers which inlcude only 700 standalone 3G and 4G towers.

  • According to the report, industry tenancy ratio is expected to grow from 1.77 (FY15) to 2.48 by 2020.

  • A total of 44 per cent of the mobile traffic is expected to be off-loaded to wi-fi and small cells by 2020, where in small cells will contribute to 7 per cent of off-loaded data traffic in most likely scenario, it added.

CBDT’s new data mining tool to help check tax evasion

  • The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is coming with a new data mining tool known as the Income Tax Business Application from next year.

  • The application would allow assessing all PAN-based information about a taxpayer at one click. The application would be able to access financial transaction profiles easily, according to an Economic Times report.
