RBI and Central Bank of Seychelles sign MoU on exchange information

  • The Reserve Bank of India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS) on “Exchange of information and mutual assistance in banking sector supervision”.

  • This MoU is obviously, part of the drive to unearth black money and the global war against the menace of money laundering. The MoU between RBI and Central Bank of Seychelle is significant as Seychelles is known as a popular tax haven

  • The MoU for exchange of information and mutual assistance was inked by C. Edmond, First Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Seychelles and S. S. Mundra, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India.

  • The Reserve Bank of India has been signing the Memorandum of Understanding / Exchange of Letters (EoL) / Statement of Co-operation (SoC) with supervisors of other countries to promote greater co-operation and sharing of supervisory information among the authorities. With this RBI has signed 25 such MoUs, one Letter for Supervisory Co-operation and one Statement of Co-operation, with overseas regulators/supervisors.

Cosmos Bank ties up with New India Assurance and LIC

  • The Cosmos Co-operative Bank- the oldest and tech-savvy multi-state scheduled bank has tied-up with New India Assurance for Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and with Life Insurance Corporation of India for the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana.

  • A press release from the Pune headquartered UCB says the features of Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana are quite attractive such as Saving account holders in the age group 18 years to 70 years will get insurance cover of Rs. Two lakh in case of accidental death or permanent disability due to accident for premium of Rs.12/- (Rs.Twelve) per annum.

  • Another features is ; Saving account holders in the age group 18 years to 50 years will get life coverage of Rs. Two lakh at the premium of Rs.330/-(Rs. Three hundred and thirty only) per annum. The beneficiaries will get the insurance amount after death of account holder.

  • The time period of both these insurance is from June 1st to May 31st. The detailed information of both these schemes is available at all the Cosmos Bank branches informed Goyal.

  • Cosmos Bank is a leading multi-state scheduled co-operative bank with 140 branches in 7 states having a set-up of more than Rs.26,600 crore.

Mumbai Indian wins IPL 8 tournament

  • Mumbai Indians' has clinched their second IPL title after defeating most favorite Chennai Super King by 41-run. Mumbai Indians posted an imposing 202 after being invited to bat.

  • Sharma (6 fours, 2 sixes) and Simmons (8 fours 3 sixes) plundered 19 boundaries in their partnership. After Sharma and Pollard's dismissal in consecutive balls, burly West Indies batsman Kieron Pollard (36) in the company of Ambati Rayudu (36 not out) led the side past 200.

  • Mumabi bowlers complimented the good work of the batsmen as they took the fizz out of the Chennai's chase with a very disciplined effort. They straitjacketed the Chennai batsmen, restricting them to 161 for eight as seasoned spinner Harbhajan Singh took key wickets of Dwayne Smith (57) and Suresh Raina (28) in two overs.

  • Mumbai had won their first title in 2013 at this very venue, defeating the same rivals. Chennai have now lost four finals (2008, 2012, 2013, 2015) in six appearances.

Distinguish mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr passes away

  • John Forbes Nash Jr., a mathematical genius whose struggle with schizophrenia was chronicled in the 2001 movie A Beautiful Mind , has died. Mr. Nash and Alicia Nash (82), of Princeton Township, were killed in a taxi crash.

  • Known as brilliant and eccentric, Mr. Nash was associated with Princeton University for many years, most recently serving as a senior research mathematician. He won the Nobel Prize in economics in 1994 for his work in game theory, which offered insight into the dynamics of human rivalry. It is considered one of the most influential ideas of the 20th century.

  • Just a few days ago, Mr. Nash had received a prize from the Norwegian Academy of Sciences and Letters in Oslo with New York University mathematician Louis Nirenberg, who said he’d chatted with the couple for an hour at the airport in Newark before they’d gotten a cab. Mr. Nirenberg said Nash was a truly great mathematician and “a kind of genius.”

Dheepan wins Palme d’Or, the top honour of the Cannes

  • Jacques Audiard’s immigrant drama Dheepan won the Palme d’Or, the top honour of the Cannes Film Festival. The choice, as selected by a jury led by Joel and Ethan Coen, was a shocker. Dheepan is about a trio of Sri Lankans who pretend to be a family in order to flee their war-torn country for a housing project in France.

  • The runner-up prize, the Grand Prix, went to Son of Saul , a grim Hungarian Holocaust drama by first-time director Làszlû Nemes. The best actress prize was split between Rooney Mara of Todd Haynes’ ‘50s lesbian drama Carol , and Emmanuelle Bercot, the French star of the roller coaster marriage drama Mon Roi (My King).

  • Talented, gruff and a former squeeze of Monaco’s Princess Caroline, French character actor Vincent Lindon scooped the best actor award for his leading role in a tough drama about unemployment.
