Bajaj Allianz all-women office

  • Bajaj Allianz General Insurance has set an ambitious target of recruiting around 15,000 women agents across top 30 cities. At present, the company has 150 women agents out of an agency force of 9,000.
  • Bajaj Allianz has also developed new Value Added Services to go beyond just selling insurance, collecting premium and paying claims to build a relationship with its customers .
  • They will be increasing focus on the personal line of general insurance products — health, home and motor.
  • Bajaj Allianz opened an 'all-women branch' in Pune and this branch will be aggressively recruiting women agents. This branch will have only women employees and will recruit and train women agents and intermediaries.

  • Bajaj Allianz is the first insurer to come up with such an initiative and this is also an industry-first.

Raj Jain: new CEO of Bharti Retail

  • Former Walmart India president Raj Jain will be heading the retail operations of Bharti Enterprises.
  • Bharti Retail had roped in Jain as its group advisor after the company split with world’s top retailer Walmart last year, but the company appointed him as the CEO.
  • Jain will report to Rajan Bharti Mittal, vice-chairman and managing director, Bharti Enterprises.
  • In fact, Jain will not be the first former Walmart India official to join Bharti Group.

FCNR deposit rates of Indian Bank

  • Indian Bank has revised interest rates on FCNR (B) term deposits with effect from January 1.
  • For FCNR (B) deposits, in dollar, the revised interest rate has been fixed at 2.58 per cent for deposits of one year and above but less than two years (2.58 per cent existing); 2.50 per cent for two years and above but less than 3 years (2.39 per cent); 3.87 per cent for three years and above but less than 4 years (3.66 per cent); 4.33 per cent for four years and above but less than 5 years (4.06 per cent) and 4.80 per cent for deposits of five years only (4.51 per cent)

National sports award and it’s new criteria

  • After courting controversy during the selection of sportspersons for the National sports awards last year, the Union Sports Ministry has finalised a new set of criteria to make the selection process more transparent.

  • The Ministry has formulated a points-based system under which 90 per cent weightage will be given to sportspersons who have won medals in various international events in disciplines belonging to the Olympic Games (summer, winter and paralympics), Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.

  • Points to be awarded for performances during the past four years will be calculated as per the following format: World Championship/World Cup [once in four years] (gold: 40 points, silver: 30, bronze: 20); Asian Games (30, 25, 20); Commonwealth Games, World Championship/World Cup [biennial/annual] (25, 20, 15); Asian championship, Commonwealth championship (15, 10, 7).

  • For performances in any other sports event other than the above-mentioned competitions, the selection committee will decide on the points to be awarded to a sportsperson.

  • According to the new criteria, medal winners in the Olympics and Paralympics will automatically be considered for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna or Arjuna awards (depending on the type of medal won).

  • For cricket and indigenous games, which are not included in the Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, the selection committee will recommend the number of awards (not exceeding two).

Asia Cup to be hosted by Bangladesh

  • The Asia Cup 2014 cricket tournament will be held in Bangladesh, despite the prevailing situation of the country.
  • The Asian Cricket Council sat in a meeting over the uncertainty of the event, scheduled to be hosted by Bangladesh, in view of the political situation.
  • After the meeting, Bangladesh was given the green signal to host the tournament. The schedule of the cricket tournament will remain unchanged.
  • Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan and acting Chief Executive Officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury were present in the meeting.
  • Bangladesh was expected to host the Asia Cup 2014 in March this year until uncertainty rocked circumstance over the political deadlock and violence.
