According to Ernst & Young, India is better investment destination than US, China

  • India has raced ahead of China and the US as the most attractive investment destination, according to a survey by global professional services firm Ernst & Young (EY).
  • EY's ninth bi-annual capital confidence barometer, based on a survey of 1,600 senior executives across more than 70 countries, has ranked India as the most attractive investment destination followed by Brazil, while China is at third place.
  • The top three investing countries into India are the US, France and Japan. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from the US, France and Japan from April 2000 to August 2013 amounted to Rs 53,673 crore, Rs 17,718 crore and Rs 71,870 crore, respectively.
  • Sectors with the highest level of possible deals include Automotive, Technology, Life Sciences and Consumer Products.
  • The survey reported that 38 per cent of the respondents feel that Mergers and Acquisitions (M&As) volumes in India are expected to improve over the next 12 months, while 30 per cent believe that these will remain stable.

Graft case:probe panel set up

  • SBI said that it had constituted an internal panel comprising two MDs to probe the corruption charge against its deputy MD Shyamal Acharya, who has been asked to go on leave a day after his residence was raided by CBI.
  • SBI said that it stood committed to probity in its dealings and assured that it would continue to hold highest standards of honesty and transparency in its operations. The statement also said the bank was cooperating with the investigating agency in the probe.
  • A case was registered against Acharya, ex-SBI additional general manager K K Kumarah and Chairman of Worlds Window Group Piyoosh Goyal for alleged graft in disbursing loan of above Rs 100 crore.
  • Sources said an arrangement was reached between Kumarah and Goyal under which he had to get Rs 25 lakh for his services and Rs 15 lakh for Acharya .Kumarah allegedly purchased two high-end Rolex watches worth about Rs 8 lakh to be given to Acharya for his alleged favours.
  • Meanwhile, the agency came to know about this deal and laid down a trap. Kumarah, who was coming out from the residence of Acharya after allegedly giving him watches, was nabbed by the CBI team.

MS Dhoni becomes first wicketkeeper to captain in 150 ODIs

  • MS Dhoni reached a special landmark in Vizag on Sunday, becoming the first wicketkeeper in the history of one-day internationals (ODI) to captain a side in 150 matches.
  • Dhoni, who celebrated the landmark with his customary blitzkrieg in a 40-ball 51*, would have loved to celebrate his achievement with a win against West Indies in the second ODI but the visitors held their nerves to level the series at 1-1 with a nailbiting two-wicket victory.
  • The current Indian skipper is also the only captain in the game's history to win all three ICC events - Twenty20 World Cup, ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy. Dhoni is now only 25 matches from breaking Mohammad Azharuddin's record of leading India in 174 ODIs.
  • Azhar also holds the distinction of being the most successful ODI captain for India, winning 90 matches. He is followed by Dhoni, who has won 87 and lost 51 matches, and Ganguly, who led India to victory in 66 of the 147 ODIs he captained.
  • Dhoni, who became India captain in 2007, and Azharuddin are the only two captains to lead India in 150 ODIs. The all-time record for most matches as ODI captain is in the name of Ricky Ponting, who led Australia in 230 ODIs.

Winner of Brazilian Grand Prix : Sebastian Vettel

  • Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel equalled Michael Schumacher's record of 13 victories in a year at the season-ending Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix.
  • The 26-year-old, who clinched his fourth straight world championship title last month, also matched Alberto Ascari's 60-year record of nine consecutive wins at the Interlagos circuit .
  • After being overtaken by Mercedes' Nico Rosberg on the first lap, Vettel regained the lead in the second and held it until the end to secure his 39th career win.
  • His Red Bull teammate Mark Webber, competing for the last time in Formula 1, finished second, 10.4 seconds behind. Ferrari's Fernando Alonso was third.
  • Jenson Button gave McLaren their best finish of the season by finishing fourth while Rosberg finished fifth. McLaren's Sergio Perez was sixth after starting 19th on the grid.
