Vehicle Ownership Transfer: The owner can get the name of the nominee registered at the time of registration of the vehicle

  • The process of selling a car or a bike of the deceased was cumbersome. The family member had to get the ownership transferred in the name of the legal heir and comply with the procedures that required frequent visits to different offices.
  • The procedure could also differ from one Regional Transport Office to another. If the cities of the deceased and legal heirs are different, it could make the process even more challenging.
  • All this is set to change. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has recently notified changes to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
  • The vehicle owner can now nominate a person in the registration certificate. In the case of the death of the vehicle owner, the nominee can get the ownership transferred in his or her name.
  • The owner can specify the nominee when buying the car as well as after purchase. When mentioning the nominee, the owner must submit proof of the identity.

NASA will extend the tenure of Mars Helicopter Mission

  • NASA's Mars helicopter Ingenuity will keep flying for an additional 30 days (at least), on an extended mission that will test the chopper's ability to be a "scout," the agency announced.
  •
  • Ingenuity was originally slated to operate for 30 days on Mars, conducting a technology-demonstrating mission designed to test whether or not powered, controlled flight is possible on Mars. However, with the success of its first three flights, NASA has decided to extend the helicopter mission an additional 30 sols and shift it into an "operations demonstration phase" that will test additional capabilities of the craft. (One sol, or Mars day, is about 40 minutes longer than an Earth day.)
  • "After assessing the Perseverance science strategies, there's room to expand the Ingenuity demonstration into a new phase," Lori Glaze, director of NASA’s Planetary Science Division at NASA Headquarters, said during a news conference today, referring to the Perseverance rover, which landed with Ingenuity this past February and has been supporting the chopper's flight program.
  • "For Ingenuity to now enter a new operational demonstration phase, our team has been extremely happy and proud," MiMiAung, Ingenuity project manager at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), said during the same conference. "It's like Ingenuity is graduating from the test demo phase to, now, the new demo phase, where we can show that how rotorcraft can be used."

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton wins Portuguese Grand Prix

  • The seven-time champion fell to third as Verstappen's Red Bull overtook him at a restart after an early safety car.
  • But he passed Verstappen four laps later and then hunted down and did the same to his Mercedes team-mate before moving on to control the race.
  • The win gives Hamilton an eight-point championship lead over Verstappen.
  • It was a statement race for Hamilton, who has moved on to 97 career Grand Prix victories, and a clear demonstration of his unquenched desire to secure a world record eighth world title this year.
