Govt constitutes National Committee to commemorate 75 yrs of Independence Day

  • Government has constituted a National Committee headed by Prime Minister NarendraModi to commemorate 75 years of Independence day which falls on 15th August 2022 in a befitting manner at national and international level in the form of AzadiKaAmritMahotsav. The committee has 259 members.
  • A National Implementation Committee under the chairmanship of Home Minister had earlier been constituted for the commemoration, to guide the policies and programs to be undertaken by various Ministries of Government of India under the India 75 commemoration. A Committee of Secretaries has also been set up for this purpose.
  • The celebrations are proposed to be launched 75 weeks prior to 15th August 2022 i.e. on 12 March, 2021, which is the 91st anniversary of the historic Salt Satyagraha led by Mahatma Gandhi. 
  • Prime Minister will preside over the inaugural program, and States and UTs will organize programs in 74 other places all over India on the same day. 

New Delhi World Book Fair 2021 - Virtual edition inaugurated

  • Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ today inaugurated the New Delhi World Book Fair 2021 - Virtual Edition. 
  • Speaking on the occasion, the Minister appreciated that ‘National Education Policy-2020’ is the theme of the book fair. Speaking on National Education Policy, the Minister said, it has emerged as world’s biggest reform. 
  • He said, National Education Policy will develop India not only as the Knowledge hub but will also help in making learners ideal and global citizens. 
  • The Minister congratulated National Book Trust and its entire team for holding the Virtual Edition of Book Fair.

Nigeria's National Security Advisor visits India

  • The National Security Adviser of Nigeria Major General (Retd.) BabaganaMonguno visited New Delhi for the First Strategic and Counter-Terrorism Dialogue between India and Nigeria at the level of NSA. 
  • Within the framework of the close and strategic partnership between India and Nigeria, the National Security Advisors held in-depth discussions on the threats and challenges faced by democratic societies from terrorism, extremism, and radicalization. 
  • The two sides identified specific areas of cooperation to enhance their fight against all forms of terrorism, reaffirming their firm belief that there can be no justification for terrorism in any form or manifestation. 
  • They also agreed to enhance their cooperation in the international arena and maintain regular contact in this area.
  • During the two day visit which ended today, the National Security Adviser to Nigeria also called on the External Affairs Minister.

India's foreign exchange reserves rose 689 million to reach $ 584.55 billion

  • India's forex reserves increased for the second consecutive week, touching USD 584.554 billion as of February 26, up by USD 689 million, the Reserve Bank .
  • The overall reserves had increased by USD 169 million to USD 583.865 billion in the previous reporting week.
  • The reserves, which have been steadily increasing over the last few months, had touched an all-time high at USD 590.185 billion for the week ended January 29 this year.
  • For the week ended February 26, the core currency assets – the largest component of the overall reserves - rose by USD 509 million to USD 542.615 billion, the RBI said.
  • Expressed in dollar terms, the foreign currency assets include the effect of appreciation or depreciation of non-US units like the euro, pound and yen held in the foreign exchange reserves.
  • Gold reserves increased by USD 172 million to USD 35.421 billion during the reporting week, the apex bank data showed.

DRDO tests solid fuel ducted ramjet (SFDR) technology

  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said it has successfully tested a flight demonstration based on Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) technology from the Integrated Test Range in Odisha'sChandipur. The SFDR technology will help DRDO with the technological advantage to develop long-range air-to-air missiles (AAMs).
  • DRDO in a statement also said that only a handful of countries have such a technology. It said that the test was carried out using a booster motor to simulate an air-launch scenario. The nozzle-less booster propelled the missile to the required Mach number for Ramjet operation.
  • “The performance of the missile was monitored using the data captured by Electro Optical, Radar and Telemetry instruments deployed by ITR and confirmed successful demonstration of the mission objectives. The launch was monitored by senior scientists of various DRDO labs, including Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL), Research Centre Imarat (RCI) and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory(HEMRL),” DRDO said in its statement.
