Chief Justice of India N.V. Raman launches 'FASTER' ('Fast and Secure Transmission of Electronic Records') for quick transmission of bail and other orders to jail authorities

  • Exasperated over reports on delay in implementation of bail orders, the Supreme Court Friday said it would set up a “secure, credible and authentic channel” for transmission of the orders for execution, saying in the digital age, “we are still looking at the skies for the pigeons to communicate the orders”.
  • Chief Justice of India (CJI) N V Ramana-led bench was irked over the increasing number of reports regarding delay in implementation of the orders passed by the top court and has recently taken suomotu cognizance of news reports of delay by Uttar Pradesh authorities in releasing 13 prisoners who were granted bail by it on July 8.
  • The convicts, who were juveniles at the time of offence were lodged in Agra Central jail for periods ranging from around 14 to 22 years in a murder case.

Pakistan, Russia sign agreement for 1,100 km long gas pipeline from Karachi to Lahore

  • Pakistan and Russia on Friday signed an agreement to lay a 1100-km long gas pipeline between Karachi and Lahore. The gas pipeline will be constructed between Port Qasim in Karachi and Lahore at an estimated cost of 2.5 to 3 billion dollars. The Heads of Terms of Shareholders Agreement was signed on Thursday after four days of long negotiations.
  • Both sides Pak Stream Gas Pipeline He also signed the minutes of the third meeting of the Russia-Pakistan Joint Technical Committee to complete the project. This project is known as North-South Gas Project. Both the countries have agreed on 74:26 percent stake in the special purpose vehicle made for this project.
  • It has been agreed to keep the size of the pipeline 56 inches in diameter, which will meet the energy requirement of the country for the next 30-40 years. This will ensure 700-800 million cubic feet of gas per day, which can be increased up to 2000 mmscfd with compressor.
  • n the next phase, the shareholders agreement, financial agreement, gas transportation agreement and lenders agreement will be signed. During this, the front-end engineering design will be completed from the Russian side and the dollar financing of the local currency component will be arranged for the gas infrastructure development cess of Rs 321 billion from the Pakistan side.

  • Newly-inducted union minister of Civil Aviation JyotiradityaScindia said, I would like to congratulate the people of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat on the commencement of the new flight operations.
  • As many as eight new routes were launched by the Civil Aviation Ministry on Friday to bolster the aerial connectivity from Madhya Pradesh to Maharashtra and Gujarat.
  • Newly-inducted union minister of Civil Aviation JyotiradityaScindia said, "I would like to congratulate the people of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat on the commencement of the new flight operations."
  • "We are committed to bolster regional air connectivity and take the Prime Minister's vision of UdegaDeshkaAamAadmi (UDAN) to greater heights," the Civil Aviation minister said.
  • Scindia, along with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Friday virtually flagged off the eight new routes.

Union Education Minister and Union Tribal Affairs Minister jointly launched School Innovation Ambassador Training Program (SITAP) for training of teachers in tribal areas

  • Union Education Minister ShriDharmendraPradhan and Tribal Affairs Minister ShriArjunMunda will jointly launch the ‘School Innovation Ambassador Training Program’ for 50,000 School Teachers on 16th July 2021.
  • The innovative and one of its kind training program for School Teachers , it aims at training 50,000 school teachers on Innovation, Entrepreneurship, IPR, Design Thinking, Product development, Idea generation etc.
  • The program has been designed by Innovation Cell of the Ministry of Education and AICTE for School Teachers based on its “Innovation Ambassador Training Program for Higher Educational Institution’s faculty members”. The training will be delivered in online mode only.

South Korea removes banners at Olympic village after IOC ruling

  • South Korea’s Olympic committee said Saturday it has removed banners at the Olympic athletes’ village in Tokyo that referred to a 16th-century war between Korea and Japan after the International Olympic Committee ruled it was provocative.

  • n agreeing to take down the banners, the South Koreans said they received a promise from the IOC that the displaying of the Japanese “rising sun” flag will be banned at stadiums and other Olympic venues. The flag, portraying a red sun with 16 rays extending outward, is resented by many people in South Korea and other parts of Asia who see it as a symbol of Japan’s wartime past.
