Mega Red Fort Festival, 'Bharat BhagyaVidhata' inaugurated at Red Fort, Delhi

  • The ten-day mega Red Fort Festival -Bharat BhagyaVidhata kick has started at the iconic 17th- century monument Red Fort in Delhi. Women and Child Development Minister SmritiIrani inaugurated the festival yesterday. Speaking on the occasion, MsIrani recalled Prime Minister NarendraModi’s invocation from the Red Fort to join hands for making a New India.
  • The Minister said that Red Fort is not just a monument but a living example, which every year makes the nation realize its resolve, promise and its responsibility towards the Constitution. She also mentioned that through this event, the diverse culture of India has been brought under one roof.
  • The Red Fort mega festival-Bharat BhagyaVidhata is being organised as part of AzadikaAmritMahotsav by Ministry of Culture.
  • The festival aims to commemorate the heritage of the country and culture of every part of India. The festival Bharat BhagyaVidhata will help everyone to appreciate the diversity of India. More than 70 master craftsmen have displayed their craftsmanship at the venue.

Kuwait becomes the hottest place on earth, record 53.2 degree Celsius

  • It was so hot in Kuwait last summer that birds dropped dead from the sky. Sea horses boiled to death in the bay. Dead clams coated the rocks, their shells popped open like they’d been steamed.
  • Kuwait reached a scorching temperature of 53.2 degrees Celsius (127.7 degrees Fahrenheit), making it among the hottest places on earth.
  • The extremes of climate change present existential perils all over the world. But the record heat waves that roast Kuwait each season have grown so severe that people increasingly find it unbearable.
  • By the end of the century, scientists say being outside in Kuwait City could be life-threatening - not only to birds. A recent study also linked 67 percent of heat-related deaths in the capital to climate change.
  • Environmental consultant SamiaAlduaij said that, the country is severely under threat.
  • Racing to burnish their climate credentials and diversify their economies, Saudi Arabia pitches futuristic car-free cities and Dubai plans to ban plastic and multiply the emirate's green parks.
  • The country continues to burn oil for electricity and ranks among the top global carbon emitters per capita, according to the World Resources Institute. As asphalt melts on highways, Kuwaitis bundle up for bone-chilling air-conditioning in malls. Renewable energy accounts for less than 1 percent of demand - far below Kuwait's target of 15 percent by 2030.

Ola, Neo Bank to acquire Avail Finance

  • Mobility firm Ola has signed an agreement to acquire neo bank Avail Finance which provides financial services to the blue-collared workforce and has over 6 million users, the company said.
  • The acquisition is a key step in Ola's broader push into the fintech space as it looks to build a mobility-focused financial services business under Ola Financial, it stated.
  • "With this acquisition, Ola Financial Services will further strengthen its play in the credit underserved segments that comprise blue-collar workers such as Ola's driver-partner ecosystem. The deal is subject to shareholder approval," Ola said.
  • With this expansion, Ola will be able to cross-sell multiple lending products to its large driver-partner base.

Former SBI chairman Rajnish Kumar joins Dun & Bradstreet

  • Former State Bank of India (SBI) chairman Rajnish Kumar has joined the international strategic advisory board of data and analytics firm Dun & Bradstreet, a release said.
  • Kumar, a veteran banker, currently sits on the boards of HSBC Asia Pacific, L&T Infotech, Hero MotoCorp and BharatPe.
  • "Dun & Bradstreet is contributing to empowering MSMEs through technology-based finance, risk, compliance, data and marketing solutions in India. Kumar is recognised as a leader in the digital India mission, and we look forward to his guidance and vision as we contribute to Atmanirbhar Bharat," Avinash Gupta, Managing Director (India) at Dun & Bradstreet, said.
  • Dun & Bradstreet has a legacy of more than 180 years, and is a respected name in business decisioning data, analytics and ratings, Kumar said.
  • "I am looking forward to working with the Dun & Bradstreet team to help create value for all stakeholders," he added.
