Yogi Adityanathbgovt in UP extends free ration scheme by 3 months
- In the first major decision of the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh, the state cabinet today decided to extend the free ration scheme initiated during the Covid pandemic by three more months.
- The programme was supposed to expire in March. A total of 15 crore people are benefiting from the programme in the state as per the chief minister. The programme was an important narrative in the just-concluded Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Second black box of crashed China eastern airlines flight recovered, all 132 onboard declared dead
- China announced on Sunday that Second black box of crashed China eastern airlines flight MU5725 has been recovered.
- Chinese state broadcaster reported that the flight data recorder found is the second of two black boxes that were installed on the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, potentially offering vital clues about the accident in which 132 people died.
- China night announced that all 132 people on board China Eastern Airlines' plane that crashed Monday in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region were dead.
- The recorder stores important data such as flight path, speed, altitude and engine power, which can reveal whether human error or instrument problems could have contributed to a crash.

India achieves significant reduction in import of coal despite surge in power demand
- With the considerable increase in domestic coal production, India has achieved significant reduction in the import of coal despite surge in power demand.
- Imports of all grades of Non-Coking Coal has come down to over 125 Million Tonne during the period April to January 2022 from 163 Million Tonne during the corresponding months of the Financial Year 2020, a decline of about 23 percent.
- The domestic coal-based power generation up to January this year is over 815 Billion Units with an increase of 12.55 percent over 724 Billion Units during the corresponding period of Financial Year 2020. Imported coal-based power generation which was over 78 Billion Units during April to January 2020 has reduced by 55 percent to 35.13 Billion Units during the corresponding months of the current Financial Year 2022.
- The import of Non-Coking coal primarily used in power sector has decreased by 60.87 percent from 58.09 Million Tonnes to 22.73 Million Tonnes upto Jan 2022 in comparison to the same period of Financial Year 2020.
- India is the world’s third-largest energy-consuming country and electricity demand grows by 4.7 percent each year. To reduce the dependence on imports of coal, major reforms initiatives has been undertaken by the Ministry of Coal with the vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat. The Ministry has amended the Mineral Concession (Amendment) Rules, 1960 under MMDR (Amendment) Act, 2021 to allow lessees of captive mines to sell coal or lignite up to 50 percent of the total excess production after meeting the requirements of the end-use plant.

Tripartite MoU signed between Ministry of Ayush, CSIR, and ICAR for collaboration in areas of common interest
- MoU will promote and facilitate research and development, validation, and deployment of agri-technologies related to medicinal plants
- Ministry of Ayush has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding with the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for Inter-Ministerial co-operation for the promotion and facilitation of research and development, validation, and deployment of agri-technologies related to medicinal plants and their value-added products of benefit to humans, plants and animals.
- The MoU was signed by Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Director General, ICAR and Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education, and Dr. Shekhar C. Mande, Director General, CSIR and Secretary, DSIR in the presence of senior officials from the three organizations in New Delhi.
- Previously, the Parties had bilateral cooperation with each other. The national aspirations related to Atma nirbhar Bharat draw necessity for multi-party stakeholder cooperation to achieve the defined goals. India with its vast history of rich culture and traditions has been endowed with valuable scientific heritage in the fields of health, wellness, agriculture, and food among many others. This rich heritage holds relevance not only in contemporary times but would address futuristic needs as well, by way of cooptation and integration with modern science and technology.
- The key objective of the tripartite MoU signed today by the Ministry of Ayush, ICAR and CSIR are to draw cognizance to the traditional agricultural practices of India, and take up joint R&D pursuits for validating and deploying these interventions for facilitating socio-economic growth in the country.
- On this occasion, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush drew attention to valuable traditional knowledge in the form of Vrikshayurved, Mrigayurved, etc., stating that the cooperation will be instrumental in validating these traditional sciences and practices towards integrative agriculture for the benefit of not only humans but also plants and animals. He also touched upon the AyurvedAahar initiative of the Ministry of Ayush and International Year of Millets in 2023, and the potential of the three Parties to contribute to the cause and promote healthy food habits based on the traditional diets of India
- Speaking on the occasion, Dr. TrilochanMohapatra, Director General, ICAR, and Secretary, DARE stated that the cooperation being signed by ICAR, Ayush and CSIR is a historical milestone towards reaffirming the mandates of the three organizations to the national goals on food & agriculture. The effort will focus on specific joint activities by the three Parties in the said areas to make a significant impact on the lives of Indians.

- Nearly a year and a half after getting financial help from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS)’s PanditDeendayalUpadhyay National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons (PDUNWFS), Uttar Pradesh’s archer NeerajChauhan has made it to the Indian National Archery Team for the Asian Games.
- What is more, Neeraj, who on Sunday finished in the top three positions of the ongoing Asian Games Selection Trials, will also get to represent India at the four World Cups and World Games that are set to take place later this year.
- “The timely intervention at that time helped me and my family a lot and got me back to training for the future competition,” Neeraj said during a phone conversation.
- Neeraj had first made news back in the year 2020 when during the COVID 19 lockdown his father, who at the time was the only earning member of the family had lost his job due to the pandemic.
- The sudden job loss had led to a huge financial crunch for the family, which had then forced Neeraj and his family to sell vegetables to make ends meet.
