RBI to start trial project of CBDC by December

  • A central bank digital currency (CBDC) is a sovereign currency in an electronic form, issued by a central bank
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been working on a phased implementation strategy for a central bank digital currency (CBDC) and the pilot may be launched by the end of this year. “The Reserve Bank of India may launch its first digital currency trial programs by December," RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das told CNBC in an interview.
  • “We are being extremely careful about it because it’s completely a new product, not just for RBI, but globally," Das said in an interaction with the international business news channel. “I think by the end of the year, we should be able to — we would be in a position, perhaps — to start our first trials," he added.
  • “They are not commodities or claims on commodities as they have no intrinsic value; some claims that they are akin to gold clearly seem opportunistic," he said, adding that a CBDC is the same as a currency issued by a central bank but takes a different form than paper.

QSim – India's First Quantum Computer Simulator Toolkit

  • The Quantum Computer Simulator (QSim) toolkit was launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). In areas such as cryptography, computational chemistry and machine learning, Quantum computing promises exponential growth in computing power. QSim is a first-of-its-kind toolkit to be indigenously developed and is intended to be a vital tool in learning and understanding the practical aspects of programming using Quantum Computers and thus herald a new era of Quantum Computing research in India.
  • Besides, the QSim toolkit is in alignment with Honourable Prime Minister NarendraModi’s vision for transforming India into a self-reliant nation by 2022, which is part of the central government’s flagship programme called AatmaNirbhar Bharat.
