How to choose an Essay Topic in Exam

While facing the Essay paper, one of the deciding factors, that determine your marks is the choice of the essay topic. Generally, the question paper presents the candidate four choices, that touch different fields.

Now, what generally happens in the exam hall is that- we start writing in excitement on the first topic that hits our mind. However, this should be avoided. Generally, our mind gets excited to see anything that we might have read lately. Thus, it inclines our attention towards that topic. However, it is not necessary that our initial interest in a topic is a hint towards our expertise on it.Thus, we highly recommend that you should analyze each and every topic carefully, and give a thought about your level of competency for each topic.

It's All About Making the Right Choice

While choosing the topic for the essay paper, you must devote some time for each topic. First, you must look the topic that suit for comfort level.

Generally, the candidates belonging to the science or commerce background avoid taking the philosophical or theoretical topics, as they lack a conceptual understanding that is required to write a long essay on such issues. Thus, people who lack a conceptual clarity should choose essays that have more of descriptive matter to be written.

As we have discussed in earlier classes, a good essay is one that touches the various dimensions and themes of a given topic. Thus, it would not be a good choice to pick up an essay that is descriptive. Because the evaluator expects you write your own opinions and perspective in an essay, apart from the explanations and description about the topic.

Thus, follow these tips while making a choice about the essay you should write-

  1. What is the nature of the topic? Is it too descriptive, analytical, philosophical or contemporary?
  2. Are you comfortable with the Topic, or does it make you sweat thinking about it??
  3. How deep is your knowledge about the topic? Do you have just an acquaintance with it, or does it fall under your area of expertise.
  4. If the topic is well-known to you, How many dimensions/aspects do you know about it? What are the main points that can be written?
  5. Does the topic has a contemporary value?? (added advantage, if yes)
  6. How well can you analyze and evaluate the content?

We wish the Candidates, All the Best!!
