Why you should not only apply for SBI PO post, but secure it.

a. Largest Indian Bank - State Bank of India is India's largest bank (In fact, India’s largest Financial company.) with a network of over13,000 branches, 5 associate banks and seven non-banking subsidiaries. It is even located in several foreign countries. It is certainly prestigious to be part of this Fortune 500 Company, which is truly global.

b. SBI is a Prestigious Organisation, worth being part of – This is how the world sees SBI.

  • Ranked 298th in the Fortune Global 500 rankings of the world's biggest corporations for the year 2012.  Only seven other Indian corporate are listed there.
  • Won "Best Public Sector Bank" award in the D&B India's study on 'India's Top Banks 2013.
  • Was the only bank featured in the "top 10 brands of India" list in an annual survey conducted by Brand Finance and The Economic Times in 2010.
  • Best Bank 2009 by Business India.
  • SBI was named the 29th most reputed company in the world according to Forbes 2009 rankings.
  • SBI was 11th most trusted brand in India as per the Brand Trust Report 2010.

Now you have a chance to be a part of this corporate gem; grab it.

c. Compensation - The compensation for the finally selected candidates is certainly attractive compared to other industries or even other banks in the Banking Industry itself. At present, a person posted at Mumbai can expect to receive around 8,40,000/- per annum or Rs.70,000 per month. At other centres, it may be a little less because of the variable components, like House Rent Allowance, Rental Ceiling, City Compensatory Allowance etc. The salary scales are under revision with effect from November 2012, and so, the actual compensation will be higher than indicated. The perquisites are excellent. In fact, SBI has always considered its own officers a notch above those of other banks, and has treated them so.

d. Residential Accommodation - A great advantage is the Bank’s own accommodation or the facility of Leased Housing. At major centres, Bank has its own accommodation for officers. At other places, the Bank pays the Rent on the house you choose to stay in, subject to ceilings which are adequate even in metros. So, you need not have any fear of getting accommodation in any place you are posted / transferred to.

e. Chance of confirmation in a higher grade & Scale – In the other Public Sector Banks, for whom IBPS selects POs, the POs are confirmed as officers in the lowest rung of the Officers’ cadre viz. as a Junior Management Grade Scale I Officer, on successful completion of the two-year probation. But in SBI, the POs have a chance of being confirmed in the next higher level viz. as a Middle Management Grade Scale II Officer. The POs will be subjected to a screening process towards end of their probation / training period, and those who achieve the predetermined standards may be confirmed and given placement in the next higher grade i.e., Officer Middle Management Grade Scale II. Others who qualify the test but fail to be placed in Middle Management Grade Scale II, will be confirmed as Officer Junior Management Scale Grade I.

f. Career Path – SBI provides immense opportunities for growth. The attractive promotion policy of the Bank provides an opportunity to the meritorious and exceptionally brilliant officers to reach the Top Management Grade in a reasonably quick time. Almost all the present top Executive Positions in SBI are held by those who joined SBI as Probationary Officers. The present Chairman Ms. Arundhati Bhattacharya joined SBI as a PO in 1977.

g. Opportunities for postings abroad. – SBI has a mighty global presence, with nearly 200 branches / subsidiaries / representatives offices in nearly 40 countries. Many officers at these offices / branches are from India. Some are India Based Trainee Officers; so, you could get a chance to work at these offices, very early in your career itself.

h. Opportunities at non-banking subsidiaries of SBI - Apart from its five associate banks, SBI also has seven non-banking subsidiaries in the areas of Merchant Banking, Funds / Treasury Management, Bill & Receivable Financing, Credit Cards, Life Insurance, General Insurance etc. An officer of SBI gets opportunities to prove his mettle at these institutions also.

i. Many doors open for an SBI Officer – SBI is truly a professionally managed bank, with professionalism evident in all areas of its activities. And, there is no area of the financial world, not touched by SBI. Therefore, the grooming and experience an SBI officer gets is unmatched elsewhere. It is therefore no wonder, that when a new bank Financial Institution is set up, or when some senior position in another bank / FI is to be filled, everyone looks to SBI officers first. The doors open to an experienced SBI officer are plenty.

So, go for it with all earnestness. SBI PO post is something for which, no effort should be spared. See you in SBI soon.
