Bright graduates from any subject can get entry in the Public Sector Banks through an All India Examination conducted by them. The exam is a stepping-stone for a career in the Banking Industry.

This examination is for recruitment of Probationary Officers, Specialist Officers and Clerical grade staff in State Bank of India and its associate banks : State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Indore, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Suarastra, State Bank of Travancore. There is reservation of posts for SC/ST, Ex-Servicemen and OBC etc.
Eligibility:
1.Educational qualifications
- General candidates and others - First division in Graduation in any discipline with 65% or more marks
- SC/ST/Physically Handicapped Candidates - First Division in Graduation In any discipline with 60 % or more marks or
- Degrees which are considered equivalent to graduation E.g. Chartered Accountant (CA), Cost Accountant (ICWA), Company Secretary (CS), as also qualifications in management like MBA / PGDBM, subject to fulfillment of criteria as regards division and marks as stipulated above.
In addition to above, Proficiency in computer and certificate of having completed training from a reputed institute is also essential.
Age limit - Not below 21 years and not above 30 years as on1st July of the year of Exam.
Relaxation in Upper Age limit:
- SC/ST candidates by 5 years
- OBC candidates by 3 years
- Ex-servicemen, Commissioned officers, including those ECOs/SSOs who have rendered at least 5 years military service and have been released on completion of assignment .
- All officers of regional Rural Banks who have put in a minimum continuous service of 5 years
- Persons domiciled in the state of Jammu &Kashmir during the period 01.01.80 to 31.12.89
- Orthopaedically /Visually handicapped candidates
Relaxation in upper age limit available to SC/ST/OBC candidates is allowed on cumulative basis with only one of the remaining categories for which age relaxation is permitted as mentioned above. Candidates seeking age relaxation are required to submit copies of necessary certificates along with the application .
2. Notes for Orthopaedically /Visually Handicapped candidates :
a) Only those OH candidates who have loco motor disability or cerebral palsy
with loco motor impairment of minimum of
40 % and only those who fall in the following categories are eligible to apply :
BL - Both legs affected but not arms
OA - One arm affected (R or L)
(a) Impaired reach
(b) weakness of grip
(c) ataxia
OL- one leg affected (R OR L)
MW -Muscular weakness and limited physical endurance
b) Only those visually handicapped persons who suffer from any one of the
following conditions are eligible to apply.
1)Total absence of sight
2)Visual acquit not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (Snellen )in the better eye with
correcting lenses.
3) Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degree or verse.
c) At the time of written examination, only blind/low vision candidates whose writing speed is affected by cerebral palsy can use own scribe/writer at his/her own cost. In all such cases where a scribe/writer is used, the following rules will apply.
The candidate will have to arrange his/her won scribe/writer at his/her own cost.
Scribe/writer must be one grade junior in academic qualification to the candidate.
Scribe/writer should be one possessing 50% or less marks.
Scribe/writer should be from academic discipline other than that of the candidate.
Both the candidate as well as the scriber/writer will have to give a suitable undertaking, confirming that the scribe fulfils all the stipulated eligibility criteria for a scribe as mentioned above. Further, in case it later transpires that he/she did not fulfill any of the laid -down or suppressed material facts, the candidature of the applicant will stand cancelled, irrespective of the result of the written test.
Only those candidates who use a scribe/writer shall be eligible for extra time of 20 minutes and /or part there for every hour of the examination.

Application:
Applications typed or handwritten in English or Hindi on both sides of one foolscap size paper in the format given with a recent passport size photograph, pasted thereon, bearing full signature of the candidature across the same with date, should be sent by ordinary post at the address given below. The envelope containing the application should bear the superscription "Application for the post of probationary Officer in State Bank of India Mentioning category viz SC/SC (OH/SC(VH)/ ST/ST (OH/ST (VH)/ OBC/OBC (OH)/OBC (VH)/ GEN/GEN (OH/GEN(VH) and the Centre chosen for the Test" . Applications not accompanied by the prescribed fee/postage or attested copies of Caste/Community/Medical Certificates where applicable will be summarily rejected. Further an application incomplete in any respect is also liable to be summarily rejected and fees/postage paid, if any, will not be refunded in such cases. Application must not be sent to the Recruitment Cell at LHOs or CRPD, Worli at Mumbai but is to be necessarily sent only to the address given below.

Exam Date:
SBI Probationary Officers Recruitment Exam is held every year by the Central Recruitment Board (State Bank Group) generally in the month of September-October. There are two stages, namely a Written Test and an Interview.
Phase I
Candidate will be called for an objective and descriptive type written Examination. Question paper will be in bilingual form. i.e. in Hindi and English except the test of English language. The Objective type examination will consist of Test of Reasoning ( 75 Questions and time suggested is 50 minutes), Quantitative Aptitude (50 Questions and time suggested is 30 minutes), General Awareness (50 Questions and time suggested is 25 minutes), Test of computer literacy and English language (50 Questions and time suggested is 30 minutes). It is important for all candidates to note that there will be negative marks for wrong answers. So total Number of questions asked is 225 and 135 minutes allotted for Objective Test. There will be negative marks for the wrong answers.
The descriptive type of test will consist of test of English language. Time allotted is 45 minutes. It serves to measure the candidate's higher order cognitive abilities such as comprehension and analysis of situations, generation of unique ideas or situations as well as language ability. Three out of four questions have to be answered on a given situation with answers to be restricted to the space provided in the question-cum-answer sheet. There will no negative marks for questions pertaining psychometric tests and in descriptive type examination.
Phase II
The candidates who qualify on the basis of order of merit in the written examination as referred above will be called for group discussion and interview.

- Candidates submitting more than one application will be treated as ineligible.
- Candidates must ensure that their signature on application, photographs and call letter etc are identical. Candidate in addition to his/her signature had to affix his/her thumb impression in the space provided for at the bottom of the application form. A recent passport size photograph should be pasted (not stapled) on application and six copies of the same photograph should be retained for use at he time of phase II examinations/Interview. In the event of any discrepancy, the candidates shall not be allowed to appear for written examinations /Interview.
- General category candidates who have already appeared for written examination for recruitment of probationary officers in SBI on three occasion in the past are not eligible to apply. This restriction is not applicable to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC communities provided they are otherwise eligible. Three chances are counted only if the candidate appears for written examination/PhaseI
- OBC certificate in the format as prescribed by GOI and issued by the competent authority inter -alia specifically stating that the candidate does not belong to the socially advanced sections excluded from the benefits of reservations for OBCs in the civil posts and services under the GOI with 'CREAMY LAYER' clause should be submitted along with the application based on the income of the financial year preceding the date of application. The caste certificate should be issued on the same year. Candidate belonging to OBC category but coming in the 'CREAMY LAYER' hence not entitled to OBC reservation and age relaxation should be indicate their category as 'GEN' or 'GEN' (OH) or 'GEN' (VH) (as applicable)
- Attested copies of relevent SC/ST/OBC/OH/VH certificate should be submitted in the prescribed format along with application form. The bank is not responsible for returning any original copy(s) of certificates /testimonials submitted with application form.
- Only these candidates who are willing to serve anywhere in India including rural areas need apply.
- All candidates (including SC/ST/OBC/OH/VH) will have to appear for the phase I at their own cost.
- Incomplete or defective applications will be summarily rejected. Decision of the Bank in all matters regarding eligibility, conduct of examination, interview and selection would be final and binding on all candidates. No correspondence whatsoever would be entertained by the Bank in this regard.
- The candidate must ensure that they fulfill all the eligibility criteria and that that particulars furnished by them in the application are correct in all respects. Mere admission to the Phase I/II for a candidate does not imply that the bank has been satisfied beyond doubt abut the candidate's eligibility. In case it is detected at any stage that a candidate does not fulfill any of the eligibility criteria and /or that he/she had furnished any correct information or has suppressed any material facts his/her candidature will stand cancelled. If any of these shortcoming is /are detected even after appointment, his/her services will be summarily terminated.
- Appointment of selected candidates is subject to his/her being declared medically fit by Medical officers appointed /approved by the Bank.
- If more than one applications are sent in an envelope, all these applications will be rejected.
- The bank takes no responsibility for any delay in receipt or loss in postal transit of any application or communication. The bank also takes no responsibility to connect any certificate /remittance sent separately.
- As the applications are to be processed by a computerized system, it is essential that the applications strictly in accordance with the prescribed format and is properly & Completely filled and contains /alternations /over writing.
- Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.
